Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS
Genetic Services
What types of services do you offer?
We offer comprehensive pediatric and adult genetic consultations for a broad range of concerns, including neurodevelopmental disorders, undiagnosed or rare conditions, complex family histories, and prenatal or preconception genetic counseling. All care is provided by a board-certified medical genetics physician.
Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?
A referral is not required. We welcome both self-referrals and referrals from providers. Should you be a provider, we are happy to collaborate and share more information to help determine if a referral may be appropriate for your patients.
How do your services work?
The initial consultation focuses on gathering a thorough medical and family history, followed by a detailed discussion of available options. Based on this intake, we may recommend genetic testing or other management plans. Any results from genetic testing will be reviewed in a follow-up appointment to ensure a clear understanding of the findings and their implications.
Can I be seen virtually?
Yes, all consultations are conducted via secure telemedicine. This allows you to meet with us from the comfort of your home or preferred location. Our platform is HIPAA-compliant and simple to use—no downloads are required.
What should I bring to my appointment?
We recommend that you share any relevant medical records or prior genetic testing results prior to the consultation. Once an appointment is scheduled, you may upload any relevant medical records into a secure HIPPA compliant electronic medical record. While not required, these documents may help provide a clearer picture of your medical history and needs.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Our streamlined scheduling process allows for much quicker availability compared to many traditional genetics clinics. Most patients can be seen within a few days to weeks. Please contact us directly to check availability.
What are your hours?
Consultations are typically available during standard business hours. Under our concierge options, we also offer early mornings, evenings, weekend, and holiday consultations, upon request.
Do you prescribe medications?
Healical Solutions, LLC does not prescribe medications. Our services are focused on genetic evaluation, counseling, testing, and care coordination. If test results or a diagnosis indicate that medication may be appropriate, we will provide recommendations and collaborate with your primary care provider or the relevant specialist to ensure you receive safe and appropriate management.
Do you see patients with inborn errors of metabolism?
Healical Solutions, LLC does not provide evaluation or management of inborn errors of metabolism. These conditions require specialized, hospital-based programs with access to metabolic dietitians, inpatient services, and 24/7 emergency care. To ensure patient safety and comprehensive treatment, we recommend that all suspected or confirmed metabolic cases go to centers equipped with the necessary resources.
Do you see healthy or asymptomatic people who are curious about their genetic risks? What about individuals with limited family history or who were adopted?
Yes. We provide clinical-grade genomic screening for adults 18 and older who are interested in evidence-based, medically actionable genetic information. This type of testing may inform preventive screening, guide medication choices, or support reproductive planning. For those without reliable family history, including adoptees, genomic screening can help fill important gaps. Our goal is to use genetics responsibly and to identify risks where intervention or earlier monitoring may reduce long-term complications, while ensuring results are interpreted in the context of each person’s health goals.
Billing Questions
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept commercial insurance. Our practice operates on a self-pay model, providing transparent, up-front pricing. A detailed superbill will be provided after your appointment, which you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Please note that Medicare and Medicaid do not cover our services. Additionally, we are unable to see patients who are enrollees of Kaiser Permanente, even on a self-pay basis. Due to Kaiser’s internal policies, members must receive care through Kaiser providers or referrals from within their system.
What are your fees?
Our rates are provided upon request. Please message us under the contact us page. Please note that the price of consultation does not include the cost of testing charged by the laboratory.
When is payment due?
Full payment is due at the time of booking your appointment. We accept all major credit cards and electronic payment methods.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Rescheduling: Free up to 48 hours before the appointment. A $50 processing fee applies if rescheduled within 48 hours. Appointments may be rescheduled up to two times.
Cancellations:
Up to 1 week prior: Full refund minus a $50 processing fee.
Less than 1 week: 50% refund.
Less than 24 hours: Non-refundable.
Genetic Testing
How is genetic testing billed?
Most genetic tests are billed through third-party laboratories. We partner with reputable labs offering clear, competitive pricing for self-pay patients. We will discuss all pricing and testing options with you prior to ordering any tests. Please note that the price of consultation does not include the cost of testing charged by the laboratory.
Are there sponsored programs available?
In some cases, we have access to sponsored programs that may reduce your cost. We will inform you of these options and ensure you are fully aware of the pricing before proceeding with any testing, as certain eligibility criteria may be required.
How do I provide a sample for testing?
Many genetic tests utilize saliva samples, which will be sent to you and can be collected conveniently at home. Some tests may require a blood sample, which can be arranged through mobile phlebotomy services or with major labs such as Quest or LabCorp.
